Installing Fragments on Linux
Fragments is an excellent GTK3 torrent client for the Gnome desktop and other GTK3-based Linux desktop environments. That being said, it isn’t a default Gnome application, so you have to install it manually.
To start the installation, open up a terminal window on the Linux desktop. You can open up a terminal window on the Linux desktop by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T on the keyboard. Or, search for “Terminal” in the app menu and launch it that way.
With the terminal window is open, the installation of Fragments can begin. Then, follow along with the installation instructions down below that correspond with the Linux distro you use.
Arch Linux
The Fragments application is available for Arch Linux users in the “Community” software repository. First, enable the “community” repo in the /etc/pacman.conf file on your system. After that, use the pacman -S command to set up the “fragments” application to your system.
sudo pacman -S fragments
Fedora
Ever since Fedora 33, the Fragments torrent client has been available in the central Fedora software repositories. To get the app working on your system, use the dnf install command down below to get the “Fragments” torrent client set up on your system.
sudo dnf install fragments
OpenSUSE
The Fragments torrent client is available for installation on OpenSUSE through the “Gnome Apps” software repository. However, this repo must be enabled manually, as it is not included out of the box.
To add the Gnome Apps repo to your OpenSUSE installation, enter the following zypper install command down below.
sudo zypper addrepo https://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/opensuse/repositories/GNOME:/Apps/openSUSE_Leap_15.3/ gnome-apps-x86_64
With the repo added to OpenSUSE, you’ll be able to install the “Fragments” application on your system using the zypper install command.
sudo zypper install Fragments
Flatpak
The Fragments torrent client is available for Linux users as a Flatpak package on Flathub. However, before the application can begin, you’ll have to set up the Flatpak runtime on your computer. It is not possible to install Fragments without the runtime.
To set up the Flatpak runtime on your computer, install the “Flatpak” package. For more instructions, follow along with our Flatpak setup guide.
After setting up the Flatpak runtime on your computer, use the two commands down below to get the latest release of Fragments set up on your computer.

Snap package
Want to install the Fragments application on your Linux PC through the Snap store? Start by enabling the Snap package runtime. The Fragments application will not install without the runtime. Set it up by following the guide on the subject.
After setting up the Snap runtime, the Fragments torrent application can be installed using the following snap install command below.
Using Fragments on Linux
Fragments is a simple, easy-to-use BitTorrent client. To use it, start by launching it on the desktop. Then, you can launch the app by searching for it in the app menu. Once the program is open, find a torrent to download.
Download the torrent file to your computer. Then, click on the “+” icon with the mouse. When you select this button, a pop-up menu will appear on the screen. Using the pop-up window, select the torrent file you wish to use in Fragments.
After selecting a torrent file in the pop-up window, Fragments will immediately start the download process. So sit back, and allow the app to finish downloading your torrent.
Open up the Linux file manager and select the “Downloads” folder when the download is complete. After selecting the “Downloads” folder, you’ll be able to access your newly download file. Repeat this process to download as many items as you want in Fragments.
Delete a torrent
If you do not wish to keep seeding a torrent after it is downloaded, you do not have to. To remove a seeding torrent from the system, select the torrent with the mouse. After selecting the file with the mouse, click on the “trash can” button.
When you select the “trash can” button, Fragments will bring up a pop-up menu. In this pop-up menu, it says, “Once removed, continuing the transfer will require the torrent file or magnet link.”
Click on the “Remove” button to remove it. If you also wish to remove the downloaded data, select the check box next to “Remove the downloaded data.”
