Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is the PC release of Halo Wars. Halo Wars is a real-time strategy video game based inside of the Halo video game universe. Here’s how you can get the game working on Linux.
Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is a Microsoft Windows game, but you can play it on Linux thanks to Proton and Steam Play. To get this game working, you’ll have to set up the Linux version of Steam.
Install Steam
Steam works on a wide variety of Linux operating systems. To get the app working on your Linux system, open up a terminal window on the desktop. You can open a terminal window by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T on the keyboard. Or, search for “Terminal” in the app menu.
With the terminal window open, the installation can begin. Using the installation instructions down below, get the latest version of Steam working on your computer.
Ubuntu
Steam works on Ubuntu quite well. To get it working on your system, enter the apt install command down below.
sudo apt install steam
Debian
Steam does work on Debian, but you must install it by downloading the official package from Valve. To get your hands on this package, make use of the following wget download command.
wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb
After downloading the latest release of Steam to your computer, the installation can begin. Using the dpkg installation command, set up Steam on Debian.
sudo dpkg -i steam.deb
Once the Steam app is installed, you must correct any dependency issues during the installation process. To fix these issues on the system, enter the following apt-get install -f command.
Arch Linux
Steam is available to Arch Linux users. However, it is provided via the “multilib” software repository. To enable this repository, open up the /etc/pacman.conf file in your favorite text editor (as root).
Once the text file is open, find the “multilib” line. Then, remove the # symbol. Be sure also to remove the # from the lines directly below it. Then, save the edits. Finally, re-sync Arch Linux with the official servers using pacman -Syy.
sudo pacman -Syy
After syncing the Arch, the installation of Steam can begin. Use the pacman -S command down below to install Steam on your computer.
sudo pacman -S steam
Fedora/OpenSUSE
Both Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux users can install Steam with software repositories included in the operating system. That being said, this version of Steam doesn’t work as well as the Flatpak release of Steam, so we suggest installing that version instead.
Flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam
