It is the successor to the ARMA 2 modification that bears the same name. Here\u2019s how you can play DayZ on Linux.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-415461 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-dayz-on-linux.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/><\/p>\n<p>DayZ is not a native Linux game, sadly, but thanks to Valve\u2019s hard work with Proton and Steam Play, it can be made to work. The first step in getting this game working is to install Linux for Steam.<\/p>\n<h3>Install Steam<\/h3>\n<p>To get Steam working on your Linux system, you will need to open up a terminal window on the desktop. You\u2019ll be able to launch a terminal window by pressing <strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong> on the keyboard. Or, search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu and launch it that way.<\/p>\n<p>With the terminal application open, Steam can be installed. Follow the installation instructions below to get the Steam app working on your computer.<\/p>\n<h4>Ubuntu<\/h4>\n<p>To get Steam working on Ubuntu, use the following <strong>apt install<\/strong> command below.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Debian<\/h4>\n<p>To get the Steam application working on Debian, you\u2019ll have to download the latest Steam DEB package from the Steam website. You can grab the Steam DEB package with the <strong>wget<\/strong> command below.<\/p>\n<pre>\nwget https:\/\/steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net\/client\/installer\/steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>The installation can begin with the Steam DEB package downloaded to your computer. Using the <strong>dpkg<\/strong> command down below, set up Steam on Debian.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo dpkg -i steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>Once the Steam DEB package is set up on your computer, you will need to fix any dependency issues that occurred during the installation process. To do that, run the <strong>apt-get install -f<\/strong> command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt-get install -f\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux<\/h4>\n<p>Those on Arch Linux will have to enable the \u201cmultilib\u201d software repository before attempting to install the Steam app. To enable the repository, open up the <code>\/etc\/pacman.conf<\/code> file in your favorite text editor (as root).<\/p>\n<p>Once inside of the text file, find the \u201cmultilib\u201d line and remove the # symbol from in front of it. Then, remove the # symbol from the lines directly below. Save when done, and run the <strong>pacman -Syy<\/strong> command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -Syy\n<\/pre>\n<p>When you\u2019ve set up the \u201cmultilib\u201d software repository is configured, run the <strong>pacman -S<\/strong> command to set up Steam on Arch Linux.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Fedora\/OpenSUSE<\/h4>\n<p>On Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux, the Steam app is installable via software repositories included in the system out of the box. However, the Flatpak release of Steam tends to run better on these operating systems, so we suggest following those instructions instead.<\/p>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>Steam runs on Flatpak with the help of the Flatpak runtime. To get the runtime working on your computer, you\u2019ll have to install it. If you do not know how to set up the Flatpak runtime, please follow our tutorial on setting up the Flatpak runtime.<\/p>\n<p>With the Flatpak runtime set up, Steam, you\u2019ll be able to install Steam. Using the two <strong>flatpak install<\/strong> commands below, set up the app on your computer.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam\n<\/pre>\n<h3>Install DayZ on Linux<\/h3>\n<p>Now that the Steam app is installed on Linux launch it on the desktop and log into your account. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below to get DayZ working on your Linux system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Find the \u201cSteam\u201d menu and click on it with the mouse to access the Steam menu. Then, select the \u201cSettings\u201d button to launch the Steam settings area. From here, find the \u201cSteam Play\u201d button to access the Steam Play area.<\/p>\n<p>Inside of the Steam Play area, check both the \u201cEnable Steam Play for supported titles\u201d box and the \u201cEnable Steam Play for all other titles\u201d box. Finally, click the \u201cOK\u201d button to save your settings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-293847 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-dayz-on-linux.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"689\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Find the \u201cStore\u201d button inside of the Steam app and click on it with the mouse to access the Steam store. Once there, find the search box and click on it with the mouse. Then, type in \u201cDayZ.\u201d Finally, press the <strong>Enter<\/strong> key to view the search results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Look through the Steam store search results for \u201cDayZ.\u201d When you\u2019ve located the game in the search results, click on it with the mouse. Selecting the game will take you to the DayZ store page.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-415435 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-dayz-on-linux-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"990\"\/><\/p>\n<p>On the DayZ store page, find the green \u201cAdd to cart\u201d button to click on it to add it to your Steam cart. Then, you\u2019ll be able to purchase the game and add it to your Steam games library.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-415437 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-dayz-on-linux-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1122\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> After purchasing the game, find the \u201cLibrary\u201d button and click on it with the mouse. When you select \u201cLibrary,\u201d you\u2019ll be brought to your Steam games library. From here, find \u201cDayZ\u201d in your collection and click on it.<\/p>\n<p>Find the blue \u201d INSTALL \u201d button after locating DayZ in your games library. Click on this button to install the game to your Linux PC. The installation process shouldn\u2019t take long.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> When the game is finished downloading, the blue \u201cINSTALL\u201d button will become a green \u201cPLAY\u201d button. However, before you select it, you\u2019ll need to run a command in the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>This command is essential, and if you do not run it before attempting to launch DayZ, it will not work right.
