First, however, you will need to set up the latest release of Steam.<\/p>\n<h3>Install Steam<\/h3>\n<p>To set up the latest release of Steam on your Linux system, open up a terminal window. You can open up a terminal window by pressing <strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong> on the keyboard. Or, search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu and launch it that way.<\/p>\n<p>With the terminal window open and ready to use, the installation of Steam can begin. Using the instructions below, get the latest Steam version working on your Linux computer.<\/p>\n<h4>Ubuntu<\/h4>\n<p>To get Steam working on Ubuntu, run the following <strong>apt install<\/strong> command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Debian<\/h4>\n<p>On Debian, you\u2019ll have to download the latest release of Steam to your computer via the Valve website. To get your hands on Steam for Debian, use the following <strong>wget<\/strong> download command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nwget https:\/\/steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net\/client\/installer\/steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>The installation can begin after downloading the latest Steam DEB package to your computer. Using the <strong>dpkg<\/strong> command, install Steam.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo dpkg -i steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>Once the Steam app is installed on Debian, you will have to correct any dependency issues that may have occurred during the installation process.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt-get install -f\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux<\/h4>\n<p>If you want to install Steam on Arch Linux, you\u2019ll first have to enable the \u201cmultilib\u201d software repository on your computer. To do that, open up the \/etc\/pacman.conf file in a text editor (as root).<\/p>\n<p>Inside of the text file, locate the \u201cmultilib\u201d line and remove the # symbol from in front of it. Then, remove the symbol from the lines directly below. Finally, close the text file and run the <strong>pacman<\/strong> command below.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -Syy\n<\/pre>\n<p>With the \u201cmultilib\u201d software repository enabled, use the <strong>pacman<\/strong> command to install the latest version of Steam on your computer.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Fedora\/OpenSUSE<\/h4>\n<p>On Fedora or OpenSUSE, you\u2019ll be able to get the latest release of Steam working through software repositories included within the operating system out of the box. However, the Flatpak release of Steam works much better on these operating systems, so we suggest following those instructions instead.<\/p>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>To use Steam via Flatpak, start by setting up the Flatpak runtime on your computer. The Flatpak runtime is available on a wide variety of operating systems. To set up the runtime, please follow our guide on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>After setting up the Flatpak runtime on your computer, the installation of Steam can begin. Using the two <strong>flatpak<\/strong> commands below, set up the app.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam\n<\/pre>\n<h3>Install Age of Empires IV on Linux<\/h3>\n<p>Now that Steam is installed launch it and log into your account using your credentials. Then, follow along with the step-by-step instructions below to get Age of Empires IV working on Linux.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Open up the \u201cSteam\u201d menu and click on the \u201cSettings\u201d button inside to access the Steam settings area. Once in the Steam settings area, find the \u201cSteam Play\u201d section and click on it with the mouse.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-293847 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-age-of-empires-iv-on-linux.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"689\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Check both the \u201cEnable Steam Play for supported titles\u201d in the Steam Play area and the \u201cEnable Steam Play for all other titles\u201d box. Click \u201cOK\u201d to save your settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Find the \u201cStore\u201d button inside of Steam and select it to load up the Steam store. Then, find the search box and type in \u201cAge of Empires IV\u201d into it and press the <strong>Enter<\/strong> key to view the search results.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-415051 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-age-of-empires-iv-on-linux-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"496\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Look through the search results for \u201cAge of Empires IV\u201d and click on it to load up the game\u2019s Steam store page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> On the Age of Empires IV Steam store page, locate the green \u201cAdd to cart\u201d button and click on it to add the game to your Steam shopping cart. Once there, scroll down and locate \u201cAge of Empires IV.\u201d When you\u2019ve found it, right-click on it and select \u201cProperties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inside of \u201cProperties,\u201d find the \u201cCompatibility\u201d section and click on it. Check \u201cForce the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.\u201d Set it to Proton 6.3-8.<\/p>\n<p>Note: Proton 6.3-8 should run this game out of the box.
