The reason? You don\u2019t need to mess with any archive creation tools and everything is very straightforward.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To start the process of zipping a folder in Ubuntu with the Ubuntu file manager, launch the Ubuntu file manager. Once it is open, follow the step-by-step instructions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Inside the Ubuntu file manager, locate the folder you are trying to zip up into a ZIP archive. In this example, we will use the \u201cDocuments\u201d folder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Once you\u2019ve located the file you wish to zip up with the Ubuntu file manager, right-click on it with the mouse. After right-clicking on the folder, look in the right-click menu for the \u201cCompress\u201d option and click it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> After clicking on the \u201cCompress\u201d menu option, a pop-up window will appear with \u201cCreate Archive\u201d on it. From there, write in the name of your new ZIP file.<\/p>\n<p>Press the \u201cCreate\u201d button when you\u2019ve filled out the name of your ZIP file. When the \u201cCreate\u201d button is selected, the Ubuntu file manager will begin to zip up your selected folder into a ZIP archive.<\/p>\n<h2>How to zip a folder \u2013 PeaZip<\/h2>\n<p>Another way to zip a folder on Ubuntu is with PeaZip. PeaZip is an incredibly easy-to-use archive creation tool for Linux as well as other platforms. It can create ZIP archive as well as other formats, and it does it very well.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, PeaZip doesn\u2019t come pre-installed on any Linux operating systems in the mainstream. So, before we can show you how to zip a folder with this excellent app, you\u2019ll have to install it.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways to get PeaZip working on Ubuntu. That said, the simplest way seems to be via Flatpak. To start the installation, open up a terminal window and follow this guide to set up Flatpak on your PC.<\/p>\n<p>Once Flatpak is configured on your Ubuntu system, enter the two commands below to get PeaZip installed.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub io.github.peazip.PeaZip\n<\/pre>\n<p>With PeaZip installed, follow the step-by-step instructions below to zip a folder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Open up PeaZip on Ubuntu by searching for \u201cPeaZip\u201d in the app menu. Once it is open, find the \u201cFile\u201d menu in the app, and click on it. Then look through the \u201cFile\u201d menu for \u201cCreate new archive\u201d and click on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> After clicking on \u201cCreate new archive,\u201d right-click on the blank space in PeaZip with the mouse. Inside the right-click menu, find the option that says \u201cAdd folder\u201d and click on it.<\/p>\n<p>Use the file browser to locate the folder you wish to compress in PeaZip. Then, click on it to start the compression process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the compression process is complete, close PeaZip. The compressed archive should be in the same folder as the folder you chose to compress.<\/p>\n<h2>How to zip a folder \u2013 XArchiver<\/h2>\n<p>Another way to zip a folder on Ubuntu is with XArchiver. It\u2019s a GUI tool much like PeaZip, and it can handle a wide variety of archives, including the ZIP format. To start the process, you\u2019ll need to install the app.<\/p>\n<p>Installing XArchiver is pretty easy, as it is used on some flavors of Ubuntu. To start the installation process, open up a terminal window. Once it is open, use the\u00a0<strong>apt install\u00a0<\/strong>command below to get the app up and running.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install xarchiver\n<\/pre>\n<p>When the app is installed, launch it by searching for \u201cXArchiver\u201d in the app menu. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Find the \u201cArchive\u201d menu and click on it with the mouse. From there, find \u201cNew\u201d and select it to create a new archive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> After clicking on \u201cNew,\u201d a pop-up window will appear. In the \u201cName\u201d box, type in the name of your new archive, followed by \u201c.zip\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then, under \u201cArchive type\u201d in the pop-up window, set it to \u201czip,\u201d and click \u201cCreate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> In XArchiver, find the \u201cAction\u201d menu and click on it with the mouse.
