However, it only works with the power of Proton, included in the Linux release of Steam. For this reason, we\u2019ll need to go over how to install the Steam application beforehand.<\/p>\n<h3>Install Steam<\/h3>\n<p>To start the installation of Steam on your Linux PC, open up a terminal window. To open up a terminal window, press\u00a0<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard. Or, search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu and open it up that way.<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open and ready to use, follow along with the installation instructions down below that correspond with the Linux operating system you currently use.<\/p>\n<h4>Ubuntu<\/h4>\n<p>On Ubuntu, you\u2019ll be able to install the Steam application by using the\u00a0<strong>Apt\u00a0<\/strong>command below.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Debian<\/h4>\n<p>On Debian Linux, the Steam app is installable via a downloadable DEB package on your computer. To download the Steam DEB package on your computer, use the wget downloader tool to grab it.<\/p>\n<pre>\nwget https:\/\/steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net\/client\/installer\/steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>After downloading the latest Steam DEB package to your Debian Linux PC, the installation of Steam can begin. Using the\u00a0<strong>dpkg\u00a0<\/strong>command below, you\u2019ll be able to get the Steam app working.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo dpkg -i steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>With the Steam DEB package installed on your computer, you\u2019ll need to execute the\u00a0<strong>apt-get install -f\u00a0<\/strong>command below to correct any dependency issues that may have arisen during the installation.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt-get install -f\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux<\/h4>\n<p>On Arch Linux, the Steam app is easily installable with the following <strong>Pacman\u00a0<\/strong>command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Fedora\/OpenSUSE<\/h4>\n<p>On both Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux, Steam can be installed through the official software sources. However, the Flatpak release of Steam works much better on these distributions, and for that reason, we recommend installing it instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>To get the Steam app working on Steam, the first thing you must do is enable the Flatpak runtime on your computer. To enable the Flatpak runtime on your computer, follow this guide on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>After setting up the Flatpak runtime on your computer, you must set up the Flathub app store. To set up the Flathub app store, make use of the following\u00a0<strong>remote-add\u00a0<\/strong>command below. This step is critical, as, without it, Steam cannot be installed.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<p>Now that the Flathub app store is set up, the Steam application can be installed. Using the\u00a0command below, install Steam.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam\n<\/pre>\n<h3>Install Space Engineers on Linux<\/h3>\n<p>With Steam installed, open up the app and log into your account with your user credentials. After that, follow along with the step-by-step instructions below to get Space Engineers working on Linux.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:\u00a0<\/strong>First, open up Steam and click on the \u201cSteam\u201d menu. From there, select the \u201cSettings\u201d option to access the Steam settings area. From there, find the \u201cSteam Play\u201d area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-293847 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-space-engineers-on-linux.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"689\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Inside of the Steam Play area, check both \u201cEnable Steam Play for supported titles\u201d and \u201cEnable Steam Play for all other titles.\u201d Then, click on the \u201cOK\u201d button to apply the changes to Steam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Find the \u201cSTORE\u201d button and click on it with the mouse. Then, click on the search box with the mouse. Once the terminal window is open, follow this guide to install Protontricks. You will need it to get Space Engineers working.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After installing Space Engineers, do the following. First, click on the green \u201cPLAY\u201d button to start the game. Do not worry if it doesn\u2019t launch correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Once the game has launched, close it. Then, go to the terminal and execute the following command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nprotontricks --gui <\/pre>\n<p>Choose \u201cSpace Engineers\u201d in the Protontricks GUI. Then, select \u201cdotnet48\u201d and install it. Then, reboot your PC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> After rebooting your PC, re-launch Steam and click on the green \u201cPLAY\u201d button a second time. As Protontricks has installed dotnet48, it should run correctly!
