To get started, grab your favorite PSP ROM files and follow along.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing Retro Arch on Linux<\/h2>\n<p>To play Sony PSP games in Retro Arch, you must install the program. Retro Arch is available on a wide variety of Linux operating systems. To get it working, open up a terminal window and follow the instructions down below to get the app working.<\/p>\n<p>Note: need a more in-depth guide on how to get Retro Arch working on your Linux PC? Follow our installation guide on how to set up Retro Arch on Linux.<\/p>\n<h4>Ubuntu<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Debian\u00a0<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo apt-get install retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Fedora<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo dnf install retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>OpenSUSE<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo zypper install retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Snap package<\/h4>\n<pre>\nsudo snap install retroarch\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\nsudo flatpak install org.libretro.RetroArch <\/pre>\n<p>After installing Retro Arch on Linux, we highly recommend launching the application and going to \u201cOnline Updater.\u201d Once in the Retro Arch online updater, use it to update the Retro Arch assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you do not update assets, Retro Arch may be missing fonts and various icons and will not look right. You may also run into black squares and other unpleasant UI issues.<\/p>\n<h2>Enable Core Downloader<\/h2>\n<p>By default, when you install Retro Arch on any Linux distribution, the \u201cCore Downloader\u201d is turned off. Having this feature shut off by default is annoying, but it can be re-enabled by doing the following steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Delete existing Retro Arch configuration files on your computer via the terminal.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo rm \/etc\/retroarch.cfg\nrm ~\/.config\/retroarch\/retroarch.cfg\n<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Download the new configuration file with the Core Downloader enabled.<\/p>\n<pre>\ncd ~\/Downloads\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\nwget https:\/\/archive.org\/download\/retroarch_202104\/retroarch.cfg\n<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Place the configuration file on your Linux PC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\ncd ~\/Downloads\nsudo cp retroarch.cfg \/etc\/\ncp retroarch.cfg ~\/.config\/retroarch\/\n<\/pre>\n<p>If the Core Downloader still doesn\u2019t work, try the Flatpak or Snap release of Retro Arch instead.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing the Sony PSP core in Retro Arch<\/h2>\n<p>Emulation in Retro Arch is possible thanks to \u201ccores.\u201d Cores are library files that provide all of the functionality needed to play games on various systems. Before we can play PSP games in Retro Arch, you will need to download and install the Sony PSP core.<\/p>\n<p>The Sony PSP core is installable through the online updater tool. To do it, launch the Retro Arch app and follow the step-by-step instructions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Go to the Retro Arch main menu in the app using the mouse or <strong>Arrow\u00a0<\/strong>keys on the keyboard (with <strong>Enter<\/strong> to select). Once in the menu, find \u201cOnline Updater\u201d and select it with the mouse to access the Retro Arch Online Updater.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-401011 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-sony-psp-games-in-retro-arch-on-linux-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"620\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Find the \u201cCore Downloader\u201d section, and select it with the mouse or <strong>Arrow\u00a0<\/strong>keys on the keyboard (and press\u00a0<strong>Enter\u00a0<\/strong>to access it).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-401010 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-sony-psp-games-in-retro-arch-on-linux-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"666\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once you access the \u201cCore Downloader\u201d area, you\u2019ll see a long list of available game consoles, as well as specialized video games (DOOM, QUAKE, etc.) Scroll through the list till you find \u201cSony \u2013 PlayStation Portable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-401005 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-sony-psp-games-in-retro-arch-on-linux-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"657\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> After hovering over \u201cSony \u2013 PlayStation Portable,\u201d click or press\u00a0<strong>Enter\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard to access the core in Retro Arch. Then, click on (or select with the keyboard) and select \u201cSony \u2013 PlayStation Portable (PPSSPP)\u201d to install the PSP core.<\/p>\n<h2>How to play Sony PSP games in Retro Arch on Linux<\/h2>\n<p>To play Sony PSP games in Retro Arch, do the following. First, find the \u201cImport Content\u201d button in Retro Arch, and click on it. By selecting this option, you can add your Sony PSP ROMs to the system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-401007 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-sony-psp-games-in-retro-arch-on-linux-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"601\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Adding your PSP ROMs to Retro Arch will make them show up in the app under the console name it was designed to play on. Your PSP ROMs should show up on the sidebar under \u201cSony PlayStation Portable,\u201d \u201cPSP,\u201d or something similar.<\/p>\n<p>Note: if your ROM files do not show up after a scan, do not worry! You can do a manual scan where you specify the system, the ROM file extension, etc. This feature is located under \u201cImport Content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Go to the sidebar, select the Sony PlayStation Portable option, and click on the ROM you wish to play in Retro Arch.
