To get it working, you\u2019ll need to first open up a terminal window on the desktop. To open up a terminal on the desktop, press\u00a0<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard or search for \u201cTerminal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open, use the\u00a0<strong>apt install\u00a0<\/strong>command to grab the \u201clubuntu-desktop\u201d package. This package contains LXQt and various programs, apps, and a login session so you can use the desktop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install lubuntu-desktop\n<\/pre>\n<p>Upon entering the password above, you\u2019ll be prompted to enter a password. You need to enter a password, as the\u00a0<strong>sudo\u00a0<\/strong>command was run, and\u00a0<strong>sudo\u00a0<\/strong>is a root command that requires system-level access. Enter your password and continue.<\/p>\n<p>After entering your password, Ubuntu will collect all of the packages and install them. From here, press the\u00a0<strong>Y\u00a0<\/strong>button on the keyboard, and Ubuntu will finish installing LXQt.<\/p>\n<h2>Debian installation instructions<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-284055 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-install-lxqt-on-linux.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The LXQt desktop environment is available to all Debian Linux users as one of many desktop choices during the network setup process and in the Debian software sources installable later.<\/p>\n<p>To start the installation of LXQt on Debian, you will need a terminal window open. To open up a terminal window, press\u00a0<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard or search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu.<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open, use the\u00a0<strong>apt install\u00a0<\/strong>command to install either the \u201clxqt-core\u201d package, the \u201clxqt\u201d package, or the \u201ctask-lxqt-desktop\u201d package. Using the keyboard, write in your user account\u2019s password.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After writing in your password, Debian will collect all dependencies, along with all LXQt packages, and prepare them for installation. At this point, press the <strong>Y\u00a0<\/strong>key on the keyboard, and you\u2019ll be able to get going with LXQt on Debian.<\/p>\n<h2>Arch Linux installation instructions<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-285971 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-install-lxqt-on-linux.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Arch Linux doesn\u2019t come with a desktop environment. Instead, users are expected to build the OS entirely from scratch via the command line and select their own desktop. Thankfully, Arch supports all mainstream desktop environments, including LXQt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To start the installation of LXQt on Arch Linux, you\u2019ll need to launch a terminal window. To do that, press\u00a0<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard or search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu.<\/p>\n<p>With the terminal window open, use the\u00a0<strong>Pacman -S\u00a0<\/strong>command to install the \u201clxqt\u201d package. This package is a meta-package, and it will grab all LXQt packages from the Arch repo for installation.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S lxqt\n<\/pre>\n<p>Upon entering the command above, you\u2019ll be asked to enter your password. Using the keyboard, write in your user account\u2019s password. After that, press the\u00a0<strong>Enter\u00a0<\/strong>key to continue.<\/p>\n<p>After pressing\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>, you\u2019ll see \u201cThere are 21 members in group lxqt\u201d. By default, all of these packages are selected. To confirm this selection, press <strong>Enter<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Upon pressing\u00a0<strong>Enter\u00a0<\/strong>to confirm, Arch will begin to download and install LXQt on your Arch Linux PC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Fedora Linux installation instructions<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-202515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-install-lxqt-on-linux-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Are you looking to use LXQt on Fedora? You\u2019re in luck; LXQt is one of the many desktop environments included in the Fedora software repositories. To start the installation, open up a terminal window by pressing <strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong>\u00a0or by searching for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu.<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open, use the\u00a0<strong>dnf install\u00a0<\/strong>command below to install the LXQt package group. This group will provide all packages related to the desktop without the user needing to specify it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo dnf install @lxqt\n<\/pre>\n<p>Upon entering the command above, you\u2019ll be asked to enter your password. Using the keyboard, enter your user account password, then press\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>. A pattern is similar to package groups on other distributions. To start the installation, open up a terminal window by pressing\u00a0<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T\u00a0<\/strong>or search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the terminal window open, use the\u00a0<strong>zypper install\u00a0<\/strong>command below to set up LXQt via the pattern. Keep in mind, a pattern needs to install many packages, so this could take a couple of minutes.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo zypper in -t pattern lxqt\n<\/pre>\n<p>Upon entering the command above, you\u2019ll be prompted to enter your password. Using the keyboard, enter your user account password. After that, allow OpenSUSE to collect all LXQt packages for installation.<\/p>\n<p>Once OpenSUSE is ready to install LXQt, press the\u00a0<strong>Y\u00a0<\/strong>button on the keyboard to install everything needed.
