For more information, click here.<\/p>\n<h2>Registering an Epic Games account<\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to have an Epic Games account to gain access to the Unreal Engine on your Ubuntu system. To create an Epic account, start by heading over to the official Unreal Engine website. Once on the website, select the \u201cCommunity\u201d menu button at the top of the page<\/p>\n<p>On the Unreal Engine page, find the \u201cSign in\u201d button and click on it with the mouse. After you select this button, you\u2019ll see a ton of \u201csign in\u201d options. If you already have an Epic account, click on the \u201cSign in with Epic Games\u201d button, and log in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have an account, select the \u201cSign up\u201d button at the bottom of the page. Then, choose \u201cSign up with email\u201d to create a new Epic account using your email address.<\/p>\n<h2>Configuring your GitHub account<\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, Epic doesn\u2019t distribute the Unreal Engine via a downloadable installer. Instead, you\u2019ll have to get the engine directly from GitHub. If you do not, do the following. First, head over to GitHub.com. Once on the website, find the \u201cSign up\u201d button at the top of the page and click on it with the mouse. Use it to create a new GitHub account.<\/p>\n<p>After setting up your new GitHub account, go back to the Epic Games website, and hover over your profile on the home page. Then, select the \u201cPersonal\u201d option under your profile to access your personal Epic Games settings.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the \u201cPersonal\u201d area, find the \u201cConnections\u201d button in the sidebar. Select this button to access connection settings for your Epic games profile. Then, choose the \u201cAccounts\u201d option to access account connections.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201caccounts\u201d section of the connections area, find GitHub and click on the \u201cConnect\u201d button. This command will grab the latest source code for Unreal Engine 4 and place it on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>To start the download process on Ubuntu, open up a terminal window on the Ubuntu desktop. You can open up a terminal window by pressing <strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong> on the keyboard. Alternatively, search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu and open it that way.<\/p>\n<p>When the terminal window is open and ready to use, install the <strong>git<\/strong> package onto your computer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install git\n<\/pre>\n<p>After installing the <strong>git<\/strong> package, you\u2019ll need to set up your user account with Git on your computer. To do this, follow the official \u201cGetting started guide.\u201d You\u2019ll also need to generate a personal access code, which you can learn about here.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to use it to download the latest release of Unreal Engine 4 to your Ubuntu system using the command below. Keep in mind; you will need to log in to GitHub when prompted in the terminal and use your PAC code as a login password.<\/p>\n<p>Note: for the command below to work, you must check your email and accept the GitHub invitation from Epic Games to join their private Git repo.<\/p>\n<pre>\ngit clone --branch release https:\/\/github.com\/EpicGames\/UnrealEngine.git\n<\/pre>\n<p>The download for Unreal Engine 4 on Ubuntu is about 8 GB in size. So sit back, relax and allow the code to download fully.<\/p>\n<h2>Building Unreal Engine 4 on Ubuntu<\/h2>\n<p>The Unreal Engine program needs to be built for it to install on your system. Use the <strong>CD<\/strong> command and move into the \u201cUnrealEngine\u201d folder in your home directory to start the building process.<\/p>\n<pre>\ncd ~\/UnrealEngine\/\n<\/pre>\n<p>From here, run the \u201cSetup.sh\u201d script using the command below.<\/p>\n<pre>\n.\/Setup.sh\n<\/pre>\n<p>After running the \u201cSetup.sh\u201d script file, you\u2019ll need to run the \u201cGenerateProjectFiles.sh\u201d script.<\/p>\n<pre>\n.\/GenerateProjectFiles.sh\n<\/pre>\n<p>Finally, run the <strong>make<\/strong> command to compile the code on your computer.<\/p>\n<pre>\nmake\n<\/pre>\n<h2>Running Unreal Engine 4 on Ubuntu<\/h2>\n<p>Running the Unreal Engine 4 app on your Ubuntu system is very simple.
