Unfortunately, however, Proton only runs with the Linux version of Steam.<\/p>\n<h3>Install Steam<\/h3>\n<p>Installing the Linux release of Steam is pretty easy, thanks to Valve\u2019s stellar platform support. Start by launching a terminal window on the desktop (<strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong> or \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu).<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open and ready to use, the installation is ready to begin. Follow the installation instructions down below that corresponds with the Linux OS you currently use.<\/p>\n<h4>Ubuntu<\/h4>\n<p>To get Steam on Ubuntu, you\u2019ll need to run the following\u00a0apt install command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt install steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Debian<\/h4>\n<p>If you use Debian Linux, the best way to get Steam working is via the downloadable DEB package. Using the <strong>wget<\/strong> command below, grab the latest release of Steam from Valve.<\/p>\n<pre>\nwget https:\/\/steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net\/client\/installer\/steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>Once the Steam DEB package is done downloading, the installation can begin. Using the <strong>dpkg<\/strong> command below, install the latest release of Steam on Debian.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo dpkg -i steam.deb\n<\/pre>\n<p>With the Steam DEB package installed, you\u2019ll need to correct any dependency issues that may have occurred. Using the <strong>apt-get install -f<\/strong> command, correct the errors.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo apt-get install -f\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux<\/h4>\n<p>Steam is on Arch Linux, and if you\u2019re a user, you can install it so long as you have the \u201cmultilib\u201d software repository up and running.<\/p>\n<p>To enable \u201cmutlilib\u201d open up the <code>\/etc\/pacman.conf<\/code> file in your favorite text editor (as root). Once the text file is open for editing, locate the \u201cmultilib\u201d section, and remove the # symbol from in front of it, as well as ones directly below it. Then, close the text file and save it.<\/p>\n<p>After saving the text file, use the commands below to get the latest release of Steam working on your computer.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -Syy\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S steam\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Fedora\/OpenSUSE<\/h4>\n<p>Both Fedora and OpenSUSE can run Steam via the software repositories included in the operating system out of the box. That said, the Flatpak release of Steam works much better, and we suggest following those instructions instead.<\/p>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>To get Steam working via Flatpak, you\u2019ll need to install the Flatpak runtime and configure the Flathub app store. To get the runtime working on your system, please follow our guide on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>After setting up the Flatpak runtime, you\u2019ll need to add in the\u00a0Flathub app store. To set up the Flathub app store, use the following <strong>remote-add<\/strong> command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<p>With the Flathub app store set up, use the command below to install Steam.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam\n<\/pre>\n<h3>Install Company of Heroes on Linux<\/h3>\n<p>Now that Steam is installed on your computer launch it and log into your Steam account using your user credentials. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below to get Company of Heroes up and running.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Find the \u201cSteam\u201d button and click on it with the mouse. Then, click on the \u201cSettings\u201d button to access the Steam settings window.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-293847 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-play-company-of-heroes-on-linux-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"689\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once inside the Steam settings window, find the \u201cSteam Play\u201d section. Then, check both the \u201cEnable Steam Play for supported titles\u201d box and the \u201cEnable Steam Play for all other titles\u201d box. Click \u201cOK\u201d to save the settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Find the \u201cStore\u201d button, and click on it with the mouse to access the Steam store. Once in the Steam store, find the search box and click on it with the mouse. Then, type in \u201cCompany of Heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Look through the search results and click on \u201cCompany of Heroes\u201d to access the game\u2019s store page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> On the Company of Heroes Steam store page, locate the green \u201cAdd to Library\u201d button and click on it with the mouse.
