That being said, it is much easier to use Valve\u2019s dedicated Steam link client. Unfortunately, this app doesn\u2019t come pre-installed on any Linux operating systems out there. Instead, it must be installed.<\/p>\n<p>To get the Steam link app working on your Linux PC, start by opening up a terminal window on the Linux desktop. You can open up a terminal window on the desktop by pressing <strong>Ctrl + Alt + T<\/strong> on the keyboard. Or, search for \u201cTerminal\u201d in the app menu.<\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window is open and ready to use, the installation of Steam Link can begin. Follow along with the installation instructions down below that corresponds with the Linux OS you currently use.<\/p>\n<h4>Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>The Flatpak release of Steam Link is the best way to get the app working on Linux. Not only does Flatpak work on a majority of Linux operating systems, but it\u2019s easy to install. To get started, you\u2019ll have to set up the Flatpak runtime on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>To set up the Flatpak runtime on your Linux PC, install the \u201cflatpak\u201d package. It will go over how to configure Flatpak.<\/p>\n<p>After setting up the Flatpak runtime on your computer, the installation of Steam Link can begin. Using the <strong>flatpak remote-add<\/strong> command below. This command will add the Flathub app store to your system.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo\n<\/pre>\n<p>With Flathub added, install the Steam Link application using the <strong>flatpak install<\/strong> command.<\/p>\n<pre>\nflatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.SteamLink\n<\/pre>\n<h4>Arch Linux AUR<\/h4>\n<p>The standalone Steam Link application is available to Arch Linux users via the AUR. To get it working, you\u2019ll need to set up the Trizen AUR helper tool. Using the commands below, set up the Trizen tool.<\/p>\n<pre>\nsudo pacman -S git base-devel\ngit clone https:\/\/aur.archlinux.org\/trizen.git\ncd trizen\/\nmakepkg -sri\n<\/pre>\n<p>With the Trizen AUR helper application up and running, use the <strong>trizen -S<\/strong> command to install the latest release of the Steam Link app onto your Arch Linux computer.<\/p>\n<pre>\ntrizen -S steamlink\n<\/pre>\n<h2>How to stream Steam games to your Linux desktop<\/h2>\n<p>To stream Steam games to your Linux desktop with the Steam Link, follow the step-by-step instructions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Launch the Steam Link application on the Linux desktop by searching for it in the app menu. Once the app is open, you will see the \u201cPair Controller\u201d screen. If you wish to, select \u201cPair a Steam Controller,\u201d or \u201cPair other controllers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-409550 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/files2.tojikon.net\/files-cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-stream-steam-games-to-your-linux-desktop.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"672\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t want to pair a controller to the Steam Link app? Click on the \u201cSkip\u201d button to continue on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> After configuring your controller, you\u2019ll see the \u201cConnect to Computer\u201d screen. If it cannot detect your PC, select the \u201cOther Computer\u201d button. Then, follow the on-screen instructions that the Steam Link application gives you to pair your Link app to the PC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> When pairing is complete, click on your remote PC to access it in the Steam Link app. After that, you\u2019ll gain remote access to the computer in Steam Big Picture. After the \u201cLaunching\u201d screen opens, the game will display in the Steam Link application.
